how PACER Works

Three layers of coaching, built around how leaders actually decide.

Not a course. Not a coaching program you have to schedule around. Not a chatbot that tells you what you want to hear. A structured thinking process, available the moment you need it, backed by 36 years of proven coaching models and a community of people navigating the same challenges at the same scale.

A free 90-minute working session for the people who own leadership development.

Why We Built This

Most leadership support arrives too late, costs too much, or hands back someone else's answer.

Talk to enough senior leaders and the same thing surfaces, over and over. They weren't stuck for lack of information. They'd read the books, hired the consultants, sat through the offsites. They were stuck because no one was helping them think clearly about the specific problem on the desk right now. Their problem. This week. Under this kind of pressure.

Rich Tyson spent 36 years building a practice around a different idea. His philosophy was never to give answers. It was to question them. His average client stayed 11 years, not because Rich solved their problems, but because he helped them build the disciplined thinking to solve their own.

PACER exists to scale what Rich built, not to replace it—to make it available at 11 p.m., when the decision can't wait until next Thursday's coaching session.

What Your Leaders Get

Three integrated layers of support. Each one designed for a different moment.

The full PACER membership is built around how leaders actually work: sometimes you need clarity fast, sometimes you need a conversation, and sometimes you need a room full of people who understand what it costs to be in this seat.

The Leadership Architect

Always available. Always working on the real problem.

An AI coach trained in the PACER models. Ask a general tool for help with a hard decision and it brainstorms and validates your framing. The Leadership Architect does the opposite. It asks the questions that surface what a leader believes, fears, and hasn't named yet. It doesn't solve the problem. It helps them find the right problem to solve.

Human Coaching

When you need more than a question. You need a person.

A certified coach who has faced the decisions your leader is weighing. Because the leader's thinking is already sharpened by the Leadership Architect, they don't arrive to the coaching with just a vague worry. They come to the coaching having already done exceptional thought work. Coaching is usually monthly, and the leader controls how much they share.

Live Mastermind Sessions

A group where everyone understands the weight of the seat you're in.

Usually virtual, so your leaders can take part wherever they work. One kind sits inside your organization, aligning your own team. The other reaches across companies, where a leader can say what they'd never raise with their own board, and be understood by peers who face the same challenges.

The Leadership Architect, in practice

Recently, a leader came in confident his go-to-market challenge was mostly an awareness problem. He had a model, a product he believed in, a plan. The Leadership Architect didn't evaluate the plan. It asked one question.

What makes you confident that once your ideal customers become aware of this, interest and desire will naturally follow?

That stopped the session. The awareness mechanism that built his previous practice relied on personal relationships. Was that the same mechanism that would reach strangers at scale? It wasn't. Naming that changed everything that followed.

THE FRAMEWORK

The models are what make this different from every other coaching tool your leaders have tried.

Developed by Rich Tyson over 36 years of coaching hundreds of CEOs across more than 60 industries. Built inside real companies facing real consequences. Every principle has a counterbalancing opposite it needs to stay honest: accountability without empathy creates fear, confidence without humility creates blindness. Here are just 3 of those PACER models.

The Problem-Solving and Decision Model

For when a leader is stuck.

Perspective, Alternatives, Consequences, Emotions, Resolution. It surfaces what a leader believes, stress-tests it against reality, and produces a decision they genuinely own. Not a recommendation. A committed next step.

The Action Model

For executing with discipline.

Plan, Act, Control, Evaluate, Revise. Converts a decision into disciplined movement, catches drift before it gets costly, and turns each cycle into learning that sharpens the next.

The PACER Strategic Process Model

For the full arc of an enterprise.

The model Rich developed after Harvard Business School in 1977 and refined across 36 years. It governs every other PACER model, running the current initiative and the long-range plan at once, and surfaces drift before it gets expensive.

THE COMPOUNDING EFFECT

Month one looks different from month three. Month three looks different from year two.

Month One

Learning your leader's context, language, and situation. The questions are good. The clarity is real.

Month Three

It knows their recurring challenges, how they respond under pressure, and which assumptions they protect.

Year Two

Closer to the coaching relationship Rich built with clients over a decade, because the models compound.

Rich's clients averaged 11 years, not because they were stuck, but because their thinking kept getting sharper and the value kept coming. They use additional PACER models for setting organizational vision and building interpersonal rapport. That's the arc PACER membership is built to create.

Privacy by design

Safe to think out loud.

PACER is built for the conversations leaders can't have with their board, their team, or even their spouse. That honesty requires safety.

  • No Public Profile
  • No data sold or shared
  • No scoring or performance assessment
  • No social exposure
  • No supervision from your organization
  • Your coaching conversations are not stored for AI or team training
  • They are not accessible to employers, investors, or anyone else

Where PACER comes from

Two independent bodies of work that turned out to be near-mirror images.

Rich Tyson

36 years building a CEO coaching practice, one relationship at a time. Creator of the PACER models, coach across more than 60 industries, MBA from Harvard, 11-year average client tenure. Author of Align and Execute: It's All About the Money... But It's Not. "I'm not here to answer your questions. I'm here to question your answers."

Jared Oates

More than a decade co-founding and building Niche Academy, a learning platform serving thousands of organizations. Author of Tension: Mastering the Superpower of Paradox-Aware Leadership. His technology background made it possible to scale what Rich built. Rich's 36 years made it worth scaling.

Is this you?

The right fit.

If you own leadership development at a mid-to-large organization and you want development that reaches your leaders in the moment of a real decision rather than a session they'll forget, PACER was built for you, and for the senior leaders you'd put through it.

"Rich's expertise in business profoundly impacted our company's growth and success."

—Steve Vanbibber, former owner & CEO, Precision Assembly.

"Rich exudes confidence and the authority of over five decades of front-line experience working with and coaching leaders. He shares a wealth of practical wisdom in every presentation.”
